Integrated Biometrics Internship
I was challenged to create a Mount that can hold ThorLabs Photodiode and also acts as a faraday cage for much cleaner signals off the diode
Problem
The Thorlabs photodiode by itself was picking up substantial EMI when it was placed near our LE (Light Emitting) film
Research
During this time, I did a bunch of research on reducing EMI noise using faraday cages and was able to find conductive 3D Printing filament that would help me customize a faraday cage for our exact usecase.
Final Model
After creating a model and printing, I came to the conclusion of this mount to the right. I included an Arca-Swiss compatible connection piece for the stand and also included the grounding insert and holes within the model for a more precise placement when someone is using it.
When it also came to the results, we were really pleased with it based on the differences seen to the rightmost images. This process will not only save us time from not having to process the phantom effects from EMI, but it will give us much more precise results for our original tests
